We’ve reached the point of the winter season when our thoughts start wandering to days of warmer and nicer weather and we realize that we can’t wait until it’s summer again!
For me, an easy way to help ease the pain of this long, cold winter is to start savoring some of my favorite warm weather libations, like white wine or rosé. My all-time favorite Italian summer drink, however, is the Aperol spritz. It’s cold, it’s light, it’s incredibly refreshing and it’s always a crowd pleaser!
Aperol spritzes are also incredibly easy to make and here’s how you do it…
What you’ll need:
I usually prepare these in a pitcher when I have guests, but the same proportions apply if you’re making them by the glass. In a container with ice, pour the liquids in the following proportions: 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol and a splash of club soda. Add an orange wedge to each poured glass and serve.
If you’re feeling ambitious and want to serve your spritzes as part of a traditional Italian aperitivo, make sure you have a bowl of green olives and a bowl of potato chips handy and then you’re all set.
Just writing about spritzes makes me want to go to Italy right now! How about you? When will you plan your Italian spritz tour?
In the meantime you can at least enjoy a cool, refreshing Italian drink here at home.
